New to racing
Just starting out?
Your racing drivers uniform along with everything else you need, can add up to quite a sum before you even get to the track.
Although safety equipment is your best
long term value in racing, there can be reasons to minimize the startup cost.
As with other race safety equipment like helmets and gloves, with a uniform there are many different basic construction,
design, layers and types of materials available. If you are just getting involved in
racing and possibly in a vehicle that you may not use for more than a couple of
years, your uniform needs may still be basic. You may not need a uniform designed for a purpose-built, 24 hour endurance vehicle, when
your current plans call for driving short sprints races in a street based vehicle.
The extra cost would not possibly be of immediate value.
For those reasons, it may be best to
start in an economy based uniform.
Due to their mass produced size standards and designs, these uniforms have a lower initial cost.
This allows the manufacture to keep the labor costs at a minimum
compared to a "custom cut and sew" operation. The longer you race
you may find options that you would like to add. Some of these standard uniforms
use FR material
other than Nomex for the exterior use, all use Nomex on the interior for their multi-layer design.
Multi-layer suits are highly recommended. Cooling or "breathing"
comforts of a uniform, lighter colors for more "reflective" mid-day heat conditions, extra materials in high risk areas
of the uniform such as legs. At which time, a premium
uniform may serve you better.
You will always find a use your "first" uniform, if
it has retained is build condition (taken care of ). Use may be for a day of testing or as a backup for
a long rainy weekend. These basic uniforms can be of a long term value. And, with a
some planning (give us an extra few weeks lead, depending on time of year), these basic types of
uniforms can be custom made or adjusted to fit you better than one off the rack.
We only sell SFI 3.2/5 or better uniforms which are a 2-layer minimum design.
Investigate your requirements and if the standard/economy uniform fits, go
that way. If not, see our other options.
After that, look over some of our other safety equipment pages and put
together the package your racing program needs to get started.
